WEEKLY MENU 07.18.21
We’re smoking, grilling and skewering during the Weekly Menu 07.18.21~
Exactly WHAT are we smoking, grilling and skewering during the Weekly Menu 07.18.21? Turkey, Veggie and Chicken – in that order. I’ve waxed poetic about Bert’s skills on the grill before, so you know he is a master on our gas grill. He decided to branch out this year, and we got a kettle grill. He’s learning his way around charcoal grilling and smoking, and we’re all reaping the bennies. (Affiliate links precede and follow. See Disclaimer Page for Details.)
For Fourth of July, he smoked a brisket. He used the “snake” method for placing the charcoal and keeping the grill at the right, low temperature for slow cooking.
We had a few problems keeping it going in the beginning, but Bert mastered it fast. And I think the time that the brisket spent on a really cool (read: out) grill just helped the flavor in the end. So we’re trying a much speedier smoke this weekend:
Smoked Turkey Breast
Doesn’t that sound yummy? We’re making turkey sandwiches and topping them with Bacon for a little extra smoke. And I’m making Cranberry Mayo – which is just a mixture of mayo and some canned cranberries. It’s tasty and easy.
And skewers abound.
There are SO many skewer options out there. (Affiliate links follow – see Disclaimer Page for details.) You can get a good metal set. Or a ton of cheaper, bamboo skewers. Check out these wildly inappropriate but hilarious hot dog skewers:
I prefer the bamboo ones, but you do have to soak them in water before using them. You can toss them when you’re done instead of painstakingly washing each one. And I get ours at the Dollar Tree. We’re using them for an Asian inspired chicken dish on Wednesday and pretty Rainbow Veggie Skewers on Tuesday.
During the pandemic, the boys built “me” a fire-pit for Mother’s Day.
We’re using it for hot dogs and S’mores on Saturday night. Last year it got a fair amount of use but we haven’t been using it as much this year. Of course, we’ve had a LOT of rain this year. And most of the activities that were on hold last year have been ramping up this year. It’s been a busy summer!
