WEEKLY MENU 06.05.22
We’re feeling lucky during the Weekly Menu 06.05.22. Follow along for why!
We’re looking at the ground during the Weekly Menu 06.05.22. Why? There have been an absolute surfeit of pennies. Pennies everywhere! I’ve mentioned it before – I’m not superstitious but I am a little stitious. (That one’s for you, Baby Boy.)
There are various superstitions about being “visited” by loved ones that have passed on. Lots of people believe that various birds represent a check-in from beyond. Cardinals are a big one, (we talked about that more in the Weekly Menu 02.20.22) and my sister swears that every time she sees a robin, DOLD is tipping his hat. For me?
It’s pennies.
After DOLD had passed on, I did clothes shopping for my Mom. And, although I never liked mall shopping, for what she needed, I often had to go for the department stores. I was feeling particularly put-upon one rainy day and mumbling under my breath as I returned something for the umpteenth time. When I got back to the car, soaked, I found a bright shiny penny sitting perfectly (face-up) on the drivers seat. I think it was a subtle hint from DOLD that my attitude needed adjusting. And it made me smile.
“When an angel misses you, they toss a penny down … sometimes to cheer you up, to make a smile out of your frown. So, don’t pass by that penny when you’re feeling blue; it may be a penny from Heaven that an angel tossed to you.”

The way the penny is laying is also important. Heads up only, please! Some people think it’s the battle between good and evil. In ancient times, people believed that metal was a gift from the gods, so picking it up and carrying it around with you would obviously be lucky. Plus, money. Why wouldn’t you pick it up?
What should you do if you bend over to pick up a penny and find that it’s (gasp) tails up?
Turn it over and leave it for some other lucky soul.
It’s always fun to look and see how old the pennies are, of if they are special in some way – if they’re rare, they could be worth all sorts of money. (See? Lucky and luckier.) Apparently the wheat pennies aren’t all that, though. You can buy a whole pound of them from Amazon. (Affiliate links follow – see Disclaimer Page for details.)
They’re like a treasure hunt in a bag! You can spend your evenings “searching” through the pennies to find a rare one. Or you could place them, ever so carefully, heads up, to make someone’s day.
What’s for eats during the Weekly Menu 06.05.22?
We’re going Italian for our big Sunday dinner this week. Then southwestern American on Monday, Mexican on Tuesday, and Chinese on Wednesday. Man, all this travelling is exhausting!
It’s a busy summertime week around here, so we’re firing up the crockpot repeatedly. Does anyone else use the slow cooker more during the summer than the winter? Mongolian Meatballs (we’re using the “institutional” frozen meatballs for these) and Shredded Chicken Joes are on the menu for just that reason. And the Roasted Red Pepper noodles show because we can make those (way) in advance. Thursday’s meal will be ready and waiting for us when we get home.
