You Do Not Have to Be Female to Celebrate Mother’s Day

I’ll say it again: You do not have to be female to celebrate Mother’s Day.

Mother’s Day Dinner is a time to celebrate any caretaker that is special to you. They don’t have to be your Mom. Or even A mom.

Sure. It can be your Mom.

But it doesn’t have to be! There are a whole host of other important people that take care of us.

  • Dad
  • Aunt
  • Grandma
  • Uncle
  • Nanny
  • Manny
  • Gramps
  • Mother-in-law
  • Sister
  • Mentor
  • Favorite Teacher
  • Brother
  • Next door neighbor

It doesn’t even need to be someone that takes care of PEOPLE.

Honor your favorite dog walker or pet sitter. Serve the person that makes sure your life moves smoothly every day. Invite the house sitter to sit down for a change. Mother’s Day Dinner is for everybody!

The fact is, the best way to celebrate anyone special is to let them know they’re special. And how better than the ultimate DIY? Dinner at home is the best gift ever!

It doesn’t have to be your home, of course. Chances are good your person has a place to eat at their home. And they might even have the items you need to make this fab dinner so you don’t have to get those too. But if not, hit up the Dollar Store for plates, glasses, a sheet pan and a frying pan or two.

Did you know you can buy a “Kitchen in a Box”? (affiliate link). It’s pretty reasonably priced too. (Don’t tell anybody, but the Dollar Store is probably going to be a better deal.)

This Mother’s Day Dinner Menu is so easy you can use the express lane at the grocery store.

Don’t believe me? Here’s the complete shopping list:

ROASTED ASPARAGUS

TART CHERRY & RED WINE SUNDAE

A couple of notes: cook the mushrooms in a little butter in the same pan you used for the filet while you’re letting it rest – they’ll taste even better.

Use half of the baguette for the crostini and serve the rest with some butter at dinner.

This Tart Cherry & Red Wine Sundae Recipe makes a ton – I usually make a half recipe. I’ve read that alcohol burns off when it cooks, but I’m not sure I believe it. Plus it adds a very distinct flavor. If there are teetotalers or children in the crowd, grab a jar of hot fudge for their sundaes.

Invite NOW, Shop and Prep THEN.

Seriously – this menu is so easy, you can go from the grocery store to the table in a couple of hours. If your person doesn’t drink, substitute sparkling cider. Don’t like the price on the filet? Buy something else.

Don’t sweat it – it truly is the thought the counts.
