Welcome fall with this Easy Apple Galette
Apple Galette sounds super elegant doesn’t it? It looks even better, so only you need to know you used a tube of pizza dough for the crust. It makes for a slightly chewy and not too sweet dough that lets the apples shine through.
A galette is “typically free-form and rustic, with the dough edges folded up around the filling, which can be savory or sweet.“
It makes pie even easier than pie. I am actually a pretty good pie maker – it was something that I started doing early on. Every time I was able to get the crust from the counter to the pie tin I considered it a win. If you have some free time and an itching to learn how to make crust, I’d recommend this “How to make pie crust” tutorial by Betty Crocker as a start.
But.
Sometimes it’s just important to get dessert going when you have other things to do. This recipe makes the best of these apples and makes your home smell fab-u-lous at the same time.
Yep – you’re seeing that right – it’s a tube of pizza crust. Spread it out on a prepared baking sheet and sprinkle with some brown sugar.
Combine the apples, walnuts, flour, sugar and cinnamon and toss well. Add to the center of the pizza crust and fold in the sides. Neatness does NOT count. Dot the inside with pieces of butter.
After you’ve brushed with egg wash, bake at 400 degrees until golden and beautiful, about 35 minutes. Test an apple for done-ness – different apples cook at different speeds.
You can dust with confectioners sugar if you want – but it’s not entirely necessary.
This is delicious with cinnamon crunch ice cream.

- 1 tube Pizza Dough
- 5 Apples, cored, seeded and peeled
- 1/2 cup Coarsely chopped walnuts
- 3/4 cup Dark Brown Sugar
- 1 tbsp Flour
- 1 tsp Ground Cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp Salt
- 1 tbsp Butter
- 1 Egg
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Place parchment paper on baking sheet or spray well with cooking spray.
- Pop tube! And spread out on baking sheet. Sprinkle entire crust with about 2 tablespoons of the sugar.
- Slice apples into thin (1/4 inch thick) slices and add to large bowl.
- Add remaining brown sugar, flour, cinnamon and salt to apples and stir well to combine.
- Spread apple mixture on top of crust, leaving a 1 1/2" - 2 inch border clear around apples.
- Turn in crust on top of apples, forming a rustic, open top pie. Dot apples with butter.
- Make egg wash: crack egg into small bowl, add a teaspoon of water and whisk well. Bush crust using a pastry brush or paper towel.
- Bake for 35 to 40 minutes until crust is brown and crispy and apples are cooked through. (You might have to test one or two.) After galette cools, dust with confectioner's sugar if desired.
