Our Weekly Menu 12.01.19 is the first in the official Christmas Season – Thanksgiving is behind us and we’re charging full steam ahead towards Christmas.
I don’t know about you, but I can NOT with all the Christmas activity that goes on before Thanksgiving. Baby Boy thinks Thanksgiving is underrated because everyone is focusing on the big holiday from October on. He is not wrong. A good friend of mine said that she first puts the Christmas Carols on while she’s doing the Thanksgiving dishes. That seems like a reasonable compromise.
The Weekly Menu 12.01.19 post picture is from Pigeon Point Lighthouse in Pescadero, California. It’s touted as being one of the most picturesque lighthouses on the Pacific Coast, and I think it’s well deserved praise. I love lighthouses and what they represent: they are silent but mighty, always shining brightly. That’s some life goals right there!
We’re taking a 180 from beautiful Thanksgiving food (and leftovers) for Sunday Dinner – we’re going Mexican. We’ll start with a fun layered dip reminiscent of the classic Seven Layer Dip. We’re adding a Mexican street corn layer for variety. Yum.
Cumin is very different than the tastes we’ve been enjoying!
Sunday dinner would also go great with a Paloma Cocktail or two. Bert thinks I’m being optimistic with a dessert that isn’t leftover pie, but technically, we’re using leftovers here too. The Cinnamon Ice Cream is plain vanilla (that we bought to go with pies!) sprinkled with copious cinnamon powder and stirred well.
We’re in full on soup season around here – and we’re having one of Bert’s favorites this week: Sausage and Split Pea. I didn’t have a ham bone handy when making split pea soup years ago – and this recipe was born. More on this later – it is as easy as it sounds.
We normally try to follow new recipes to the letter – at least the first time. This week we’re making the pizza recipe a little easier – we’re following all the other steps, but we’re subbing in a loaf of French bread for the crust.
