Weekly Menu 07.15.18
July 15th?!?! This summer is just flying by, which is evidenced by the menu as well as the fact that the first of our festivals is upon us.
Erie, Pennsylvania is a huge festival town. Because the winter can be harsh and long, the summer is celebrated in a myriad of ways, often involving the fabulous Lake Erie as well as big parties that various churches and organizations put on to raise funds. The Festivals are outside, usually in parking lots, with big tents for cover in case the weather gets ornery. There are ethnic homemade foods and usually fabulous desserts. And best of all, there are always nearly as many people that you know as you don’t. Plus the beer is always cold.
Last week was the Cherry Festival in a town a bit east of here called North East: interesting that it is in the northwest corner of Pennsylvania, but I digress. This week is one of Erie’s most popular: The Greek Festival or Panegyri. Yippee! I don’t care how hot it’s supposed to be, we are making the trip.
We still have the Italian Festival, the Polish Festival, the Irish Festival… you get the idea. It’s party time in Erieland.
It’s also time for an easy menu; as always, this one allows for quality time spent outside of the kitchen.
Opa!
