WEEKLY MENU 07.11.21
We’re paying homage to a regional summertime favorite during the Weekly Menu 07.11.21~
WHAT regional fave are we honoring during the Weekly Menu 07.11.21? I’ve been going to the White Turkey Drive-In for as long as I can remember. My brothers would order a full meal, then a second full meal, before finishing up with the classic Root Beer Float. Preferably the Super Shuper. My favorite sandwich is tough to pick, but I always start with the classic – the place is named for it, after all.
It’s a little tough to see, but there is a swipe of butter on the top of the bun and a sprinkle of coarse salt. They were shredding turkey before it became cool – the place has been around since 1952. And it is a quintessential drive-in. You’re always within 20 feet of your car. Alas, they are only open during the bright and shiny summer season from Mother’s Day until Labor Day. We always go at least once, but sometimes can squeeze it in a second time. The White Churk (as it became known) is located in Conneaut, Ohio, which is about a 30 mile run for us – each way. Road Trip! We spend the whole drive out drooling, and the whole drive back trying to keep awake after all that food.
Bert doesn’t often go – it’s not his favorite place. Here’s a rare sighting…
So are we having White Turkey Sandwiches during the Weekly Menu 07.11.21? Nah. They’re only my favorite. Everyone else always gets burgers or hot dogs. (Smith’s of course.) We’re emulating the Super Ed Burger, named after the founder. Two ground beef patties with cheese, bacon and home made onion rings. We’re starting with hot-dog bites which are grilled, cut into pieces and skewered with a toothpick. Super fancy.
What’s for Dessert? Root Beer Floats, of course.
You don’t NEED a special glass, but if you wanted a nice multi-purpose one for the Floats, check out this one. It’s no Super Shuper, but it does look very authentic. (Affiliate links follow. See Disclaimer Page for Details.)
We’re grilling again on Wednesday – and by that I mean Bert is grilling again, naturally. Pork chops are sprinkled liberally with Jerk Seasoning and cooked. You can make your own seasoning, but it’s available in most grocery stores too. They even have spicy or mild Jerk Seasoning.
Our crockpot summer meal this week is super simple – Tangy Sweet French Chicken has only 5 ingredients. The main ingredient besides chicken is bottle French Dressing. Thumbs up for a dump and forget meal.
