Ice cream is good anytime, but especially so during the season that includes Weekly Menu 07.10.22. I love ice cream. Soft serve or traditional, no-churn and full churn, I like them all. In the United States, there are six distinct types of “ice-cream”. All countries have some type of ice cream though – Number 7 in this list is basically just ice cream from around the world!

1. Custard Base

French-style custard base ice cream is known for its high percentage of egg yolks and cream. Custard ice creams have a rich flavor and super smooth texture. All sorts of different flavors work with this one.

2. Philadelphia Style

This is a new name to me, and I live in Pennsylvania! This is a “no-egg” ice cream that is much lighter than it’s older brother. I think we’ve been eating this for years, but just found out it had a name!

3. Frozen Yogurt

Purportedly “better” for you, it’s typically lower in calories and fat than custard based, and it has a tangy, refreshing taste.

4. Gelato

This Italian treat is made with straight up milk and is churned much less than typical custard style ice cream. It’s denser because of the churning, and tastes rich.

5. Sorbet

Technically not ice cream, sorbet is a churned mixture of sugar, water, and either fruit juice, wine, or liqueur.

6. Sherbet

Is sorbet with some milk added in.

National Ice Cream Day is coming up – and although it doesn’t fall into the Weekly Menu 07.10.22, we’re going to jump ahead and include some ice cream nonetheless. A decadent (and easy!) treat is No-Churn Ice Cream. We’re having our Toasted Coconut No-Churn Ice Cream this week, and it could not be easier. Combine the flavor base with some sweetened condensed milk and mix it with perfectly whipped cream. And freeze. Use small serving bowls – a little bit of this goes a looong way. (Affiliate links follow – see Disclaimer Page for details.)

I use my fabulous hand held blender/mini food processor for this to make clean-up a breeze. You do have to freeze this for about six hours to achieve the best results, and the coconut rum in this mixture helps with the consistency of the ice cream – it doesn’t get quite so hard. If you don’t want to use alcohol, it’s fine without it. It’ll just be a little harder. Let it sit out for 10 minutes before you scoop.

Coconut not your thing? We’ve got options.

10 No-churn Ice Creams for National Ice Cream Day

Maybe next Sunday (for the actual National Ice Cream Day) we’ll have Ice Cream Pie. Or Cream Puffs stuffed with Ice Cream. Maybe Cinnamon Heath Crunch No-Churn? I’m a sucker for Cinnamon Ice Cream. When I was pregnant with Baby Boy, it was my absolute go-to. He loves it now. Coincidence? I think not. Get some calcium the good old fashioned way – in a scoop!

Weekly Menu 07.10.22

So we’re eating ice cream and grilling during the Weekly Menu 07.10.22. If that doesn’t scream summertime, I don’t know what does! We’re also going pretty low-carb, except for Monday’s dinner that really doesn’t fit into our narrative all that well, but it was a request from Bert, so it stays. Casserole normally says wintertime, but Meatball Parmesan is on the list for this week too. A little comfort food never hurt anyone.

Our Meatball Parm recipe is a take from one of our favorite Italian restaurants in Buffalo: Chef’s. Cooked spaghetti is tossed with some marinara sauce and a little bit of butter before being put in the casserole dish, dotted with meatballs and smothered in mozzarella cheese. How about a little light eating for a Monday night? Because it is Monday (and we won’t have all day), I’ll use a decent jar of marinara sauce and “institutional” (a/k/a frozen) meatballs. Everyone will get to sleep early that night!

We’ve got planned leftovers this week, which is something I should do more of, but the boysies usually take care of leftovers for lunch or snacks. This week, I’ll be sure to post a “Do Not Disturb” note on Thursday’s pot roast. We’ll shred it up, add some barbecue sauce to it before smothering some crispy tater tots with it. Some cheese, sour cream and green onions will round out Saturday’s din-din.
