Spicy Micro Steamed Broccoli
Spicy Micro-Steamed Broccoli is healthy, easy and stupid fast~
Spicy Broccoli is the easiest way to cook broccoli – ever. No boiling, so you won’t lose any precious nutrients. Broccoli is a nutritional powerhouse, and you don’t want to waste a bit of it.
Broccoli (Brassica oleracea) is a cruciferous vegetable related to cabbage, kale, cauliflower, and Brussels sprouts.
These vegetables are known for their beneficial health effects. Broccoli is high in many nutrients, including fiber, vitamin C, vitamin K, iron, and potassium. It also boasts more protein than most other vegetables.
This green veggie can be enjoyed both raw and cooked, but recent research shows that gentle steaming provides the most health benefits.

So, you know it’s good for you. But by the time you get out the steamer basket and get the water boiling in the pot, you’ve gotten two dishes dirty and you aren’t even cooking yet. Plus, plain Jane steaming really doesn’t do much for the taste.
We have a better plan.
Cut the florets off the head (one head equals one small tree) and put them in a microwave safe bowl (affiliate links follow – see disclaimer for more info). Keep the stem for snacking – it’s super crunchy and tastes very mild. It’s delicious with some Green Onion Ranch. I usually peel off the outer layer when I eat the stalk.
Use a bowl that the broccoli just fits into. Then drizzle with a little olive oil, sprinkle with kosher salt and liberally add red pepper flakes.
DON’T ADD ANY WATER. Just add a lid/cover. I use a plate so I don’t waste any plastic wrap.
Put the bowl in the microwave and cook on high for three to four minutes. The broccoli should still be bright green, and a very little bit crispy.
We like a lot of red pepper flakes. But you do you, and plan accordingly.
