Sometimes you have to exclude the kids.

They’re messy, insist on sharing and generally hinder any amorous intentions between you and your love. This menu is perfect for waiting until they go to sleep. If they’re not great sleepers, how about a fun night for them over at a favorite relative? Or a sleepover at a friends? You might have to return the favor, but it’s so worth reconnecting.

If you WANT to include the kids – check out our Valentine’s Day Breakfast.

Worse case Ontario (ignore obscure film reference) you might need to get a sitter to keep them occupied in another part of the house. Kudos to you if you’ve thought far enough ahead to make the basement habitable.

Set the stage for Romance~

Set up the dining room or kitchen table (or counter) with your favorite plates and cover with red taper candles (affiliate links follow – see disclaimer page for details). The more the better – add in some votives in between the tapers to light up the rose petals. Don’t forget the candle-holders – this glass multi-pack is a good buy. Have some fun – and check out the Dollar Tree or Christmas Tree Store for other ideas.

Or, set yourselves up in front of a fun roaring fire. Summertime? Light up the patio with candles and enjoy the stars.

Still a little tense?

Bring out a silly couples game like this Date Night Box Set – it’ll have you relaxed and ready for a Romantic Dinner in no time.

Menu-time!

We’re flip-flopping dinner. Why? Because we can. And adulting means it’s okay to eat dessert first from time to time. Chocolate Fondue is easy to eat with your fingers too – or to serve to your love.

We’re calling for “Sparkling Wine” which is usually referred to as Champagne. Anything sparkly will work – Prosecco is always fun. (What’s the difference? Check out Champagne V. Prosecco for deets.) Seltzer works in a pinch too. All will go great with both the Fondue and the soup.

Soup? Is Soup Romantic?

Lobster Bisque is silky and sensual, which is a plus for this dinner. If lobster is a bit out of site price-wise, try shrimp in the shell. Make the bisque exactly the same way as the recipe says, using the shells to make the stock. Seafood not your thing? Try this Cream of Chicken soup (found on Self Proclaimed Foodie). All can EASILY be made ahead and will wait if you get busy with something else. Ahem.

Finish with a Cheese Course~

I did say we were flip-flopping. Pick up two or three of your favorite cheeses – you won’t need much. Check out How to Serve a Cheese Course for ideas and tips.
