There doesn’t even have to be a special occasion to celebrate with a Steak House Dinner. It’s a great meal to have any time you want to make guests feel special. You can make a steak dinner at home for 4 people for about the same price as you can pay for one steak dinner out, so it’s truly cost effective.

Steak House Dinner Entertaining Strategy Time!

BYOS

If you’re on a strict budget, make it a BYOS – bring your own steak. The host (you!) has all the sides and desserts ready before guests arrive, and cooks the steaks last minute. You can use an outdoor grill, broil the steaks or use my favorite method: your trusty huge cast iron skillet (affiliate links follow – see disclaimer for details) .

No matter what kind of steak you make, it’s bound to be a hit if it’s cooked properly. Use an instant read thermometer to make sure it’s cooked the way your guests prefer. We’re “medium” around here, so we heat to about 145 degrees. Here’s a handy chart I found on Butter With a Side of Bread:

Whatever you do, don’t over cook it – you can always cook for a few more minutes if it’s too pink, but all is lost once it’s hard and dry.

A Steak House Dinner calls for white linens.

It doesn’t matter if it’s a nice white tablecloth on a dining room table with candles or a crisp white napkin set next to a plate on the counter. And don’t forget the steak knives! Fill in the dining area with taper candles and tea lights – candles make everything festive without much effort.

Easy bump-ups~

Starters:

Welcome your guests with a Manhattan Cocktail or Whisky on the rocks to really get everyone in the Steak House mood. Grab one of these cool ice molds for a fun addition.

Honey Butter:

Buy a nice round loaf of brown bread and make your own Honey Butter to take it to the next level: take a stick of room temperature butter and mix in two tablespoons of honey. Sprinkle in a dash of kosher salt and mix again. Put the butter in a little ramekin or decorative bowl and serve it next to the warm bread.

Cinnamon Ice Cream:

The Ice Cream in the Cream Puff recipe is divine – but if you need dessert to come together a little faster, use slightly melted plain vanilla ice cream and sprinkle on some cinnamon before stirring well. You can add as much or as little cinnamon as you like. You could also add some Fireball Whisky to the ice cream for a boozy little topper.

‘Shrooms:

I like button mushrooms with steak. Don’t tell anyone though – they seem to have gotten a bad rap. I take the stem out of clean mushrooms and put them in a non-stick skillet with a little bit of butter. Put them in stem side up. Sprinkle with a little kosher salt and turn on the heat to medium. Cook while the steaks are cooking. After the mushroom caps fill up with liquid, stir them around to coat. Serve right away!
