About the Well Seasoned Mom

My name is Kate Klebanski. I am a happily married, older (“well seasoned” as it were) mother of three men/children that are in high school and college. My husband and I both have our own companies (our real jobs) and are pretty actively involved in our community, our church and as many aspects of our boys lives as we are allowed. I love to cook almost as much as I love to read books that aren’t good for me.

Why Menus?

A couple of reasons. One of our boys really, really liked to know what was for dinner every night. I started making up a weekly menu and posting it on the fridge so he could check what was for dinner at any time. I based it around our often hectic schedule of work, school, sports and travel.
Because I prepare the shopping list off of the menu, I rarely go to the grocery store more than once a week. I can’t seem to leave the store on a quick stop without spending at least $25, so I save both time and money every time I don’t go to the grocery store.

The posted menu saves our lives too! I leave up two (sometimes three) weeks of menus stacked together under the same magnet on the fridge. If I’m looking at using some leftovers, and I can’t find them on this week’s menu, I check to see when we had it, often to Bert’s dismay. (We generally disagree about how long leftovers last.)
I keep a calendar with all of our commitments on it, and I check out the calendar before I prep a menu: if we have a game at 6:00 pm, it’s likely we’ll have a crockpot meal that night. (If Bert is out of town we might get Chinese!) I print and post the menu weekly, usually on Saturday. I like (?) to go to the grocery store early Saturday or Sunday morning before too many people show up.
