WEEKLY MENU 09.01.19
Plan your week and enjoy it too!
Our Weekly Menu 09.01.19 includes links for a fun and easy Labor Day Celebration (and a link to last years menu too!) so you can organize your week one dinner at a time.
Summer is winding down, but there is plenty to celebrate this week! Labor Day is the unofficial end to summer, but here in Erieland, it just keeps on going. Our September weather is usually even better than our August weather, so we’ll keep grilling and eating on the patio.
Weekly Menu 09.01.19 hits during harvest season.
Another huge benefit to this time of year is that all the farmer’s markets are filled to the brim with awesome, fresh produce. We’re capitalizing on our run with zucchini recipes, fresh corn chowder and baby, new potatoes. The new potatoes will be prepped in the best way possible for spuds: steamed until fork tender and then buttered. What could be better?
School is underway for just about everyone now, and we’re split between crockpot and grilling for our meals this week. That way there’s time to cover those books. Does anybody cover books with grocery bags anymore? That’s kind of an art. I was always mediocre at it. My BFF was super artsy and her books were works of art.
Paper or plastic?
Our grocery store has been running short on paper bags lately – and it turns out it’s because they’re starting a push to remove all plastic bags before the end of the year, at least in New York state.
Plastic or paper? Neither one is ideal, Wegmans Food Markets contends.
The Rochester, N.Y.-based retailer said it would remove plastic bags from select stores in New York next week as it preps for a forthcoming statewide plastic-bag ban in 2020.Winsight Grocery Business
The retailer also said it would begin imposing a 5-cent charge on paper bags at those stores, located in the Ithaca and Corning, N.Y., markets, saying data from a Maryland store where the company charges for bags indicates the charge would dramatically accelerate a consumer switch to reusable bags.
Looks like we’re going to have to start using the re-usable bags. We should be anyway – but the chances I’ll remember to bring them with me to the store are slim to none.
If you don’t want to use bags that have the store info plastered all over it, Amazon has you covered: Reusable Grocery Bags (affiliate links follow) are pretty economical. And super cute. Check these out:
