WEEKLY MENU 06.16.19
BEHIND THE SCENES WEEKLY MENU 06.16.19 PLAN
Our Weekly Menu 06.16.19 includes a Father’s Day celebration honoring Dad, as well as easy menu items for every night. The crock pot is in heavy rotation, as is the grill. Typical summer week!
When the boys were in grade school, they occasionally came home with truly horrendous breath. A little sleuthing revealed the culprit: Garlic Elbows. I learned the recipe when I enjoyed cafeteria duty: once the elbows were cooked, they were doused with a generous amount of margarine (I use olive oil) and copious amounts of garlic powder. That’s it. I add dried parsley for color, but it’s still the side dish that gets a high five when it appears on the menu.
Simple is often best.
As I’ve mentioned before, I love the crock pot (affiliate link) almost as much during the summer as I do during winter. It cooks without heating up the whole kitchen! I also adore grilling using our Weber Grill (affiliate link), which also comes into play this week. We can almost (almost!) do without the stove.
Weekly Menu 06.16.19 also includes the official start to summer – the Summer Solstice!
The summer solstice is almost upon us: June 21 will be the longest day of 2019 for anyone living north of the equator. If pagan rituals are your thing, this is probably a big moment for you. If not, the solstice is still pretty neat.

Technically speaking, the summer solstice occurs when the sun is directly over the Tropic of Cancer, or 23.5 degrees north latitude. This will occur at exactly 11:54 am Eastern on Friday the 21st.
Check out the article at VOX for all the info you’ve every wanted to know about the summer solstice. Although it states one misnomer that’s a pet peeve of mine: it isn’t the longest day of the year (they’re all the same length) it’s the day with the longest period of sunlight for the year. Wikipedia
Anywho, we’re celebrating on the patio (weather permitting) with ice cream! We’ll probably buy a couple different pints, but you can always make your own (no churn – YIPPEE!) with our Toasted Coconut Ice Cream or Cinnamon Heath Crunch Ice Cream. Check out Ten No-Churn Ice Cream Recipes for other delish ideas.
