WEEKLY MENU 08.04.24
We’re rushing to check off all the summer must-dos during the Weekly Menu 08.04.24~
How in the world did we already get to the Weekly Menu 08.04.24? We don’t have anyone getting ready for school this year, but August still indicates the end of summer as we know it.
I’ve waxed poetic about Erieland in the past. I try to keep it on the down-low because the place is pretty fantastic, and we don’t want it completely overrun. Erie, Pennsylvania, shines brightest in the summer. Just check out our post picture of the gorgeous Presque Isle. (Photo by Megs Harrison on Unsplash)
Unfortunately, summer is fleeting. It’s crazy busy and we’re out and about all the time. It never fails, though, that we have all sorts of must-dos left, well, to do when we hit August (and Bert’s Birthday: HAPPY BIRTHDAY, BERT!).
Some of our “musts” have a closing date looming on the horizon. The White Turkey Drive-In (which we paid homage to on the Weekly Menu 07.11.21) is a regional favorite that closes the day after Labor Day. They’re open from Mother’s Day through Labor Day, and we haven’t gotten there yet. Fingers crossed, and weather willing, this is our week!
Play Ball!
Another must-do is seeing a baseball game. The Erie Seawolves, a Double A-Detroit Affiliate minor league team, is in full swing (pun intended), and the games are a blast—especially on Two-Buck Thursdays when you can get a hot dog, pop, popcorn, or beer for $2 EACH. Have we been? We have not.
We are heading to PNC Park to see a Pittsburgh Pirates game this week. I don’t believe we’ll find any $2 Smiths hot dogs there, sadly, although it’s always fun to see a major league game. The Pirates have a pitching phenom (so I’m told) named Paul Skenes who we’re hoping to see. Again, fingers crossed!
Lobsta Party!
During COVID, when so many things were canceled, we had a party (with appropriate social distancing, to be sure) with immediate family and the very few people we saw regularly. We morphed a party that I had been invited to in Boston when I worked there after college and the annual picnic that had been shut down.
BRING YOUR OWN LOBSTER PARTY
It’s since become an annual affair with the same small group. We all like it better than either of the originals. Of course, I have all sorts of paraphernalia for it that I could not locate. It turns out I stored everything in the seldom-used lobster pot, which makes sense if you can but remember it. (Affiliate links follow – see Disclaimer Page for Details) Thankfully, I found it before I ordered anything.
Lobster isn’t the only thing on the menu ~
WEEKLY MENU 08.04.24
So, if you’re wondering (Marty), the Weekly Menu 08.04.24 is more of a guide than anything else. We might be eating what’s on there on any particular day, but we might not. It’s a total crap shoot.
We’re trying something new with the Turkey Burgers. Bert cooked our Southwestern Burgers on the Blackstone last week, and they were outstanding, so we want burgers but need to take a break from all the red meat, at least for one day. Full disclosure: the grilled pineapple is unlikely to make it on to any of our burgers. Grilled pineapple looks good, but it’s not for us.

This all looks SO delicious, and I love the idea of a lobster party!
